Typical ranges seen in many markets, not a quote. Your door, the parts and the company set the real price.

Where the Money Goes

The springs themselves are not the expensive part. A single spring often costs a company well under $100.

Most of the bill is the trip, the technician's time, the special tools, the warranty and the company's overhead. The work itself usually takes one to two hours.

That's normal. It also means two companies can quote very different prices for the same springs.

What Moves the Price

Number of springs. Most doors have one or two. Heavy wood or carriage doors may need four.

Spring grade. Standard springs last about 10,000 cycles. Longer life springs last 25,000 to 30,000 and cost roughly twice as much for about three times the life.

Door size and weight. Bigger, heavier doors need bigger springs.

Coatings. Coated or galvanized springs resist rust near salt water and usually cost a little more.

Other worn parts. Frayed cables, cracked drums or worn bearings found during the visit add to the bill.

One or Both

On a two spring door, replacing only the broken one saves money now. Replacing both avoids a second visit and trip charge when the other fails, which is usually soon.

Either choice is fair. Ask for the price both ways.

Signs a Quote Is Padded

  • One standard spring priced far above the ranges here.
  • A new door pushed when the door is sound.
  • No choice offered between standard and longer life springs.
  • Vague answers about warranty or what's included.

Getting a second quote is normal and fair.

Questions to Ask

  • Is that price per spring or for the pair?
  • What cycle rating are the springs?
  • How long is the warranty on parts and labor?
  • Are cables, rollers and a tune up included?

Smaller Jobs for Comparison

A tune up, where the technician lubricates, tightens and adjusts the door, typically runs a few hundred dollars plus any parts such as rollers. New weatherstrip along the bottom and sides is in a similar range at higher priced companies.

If a spring visit turns up worn rollers, adding them then usually costs less than a separate trip later.

About These Numbers

These ranges come from published prices across many markets, not from local companies. Pensacola prices can be higher or lower. Treat them as a gut check, not a quote.

For signs your spring has broken, see broken springs. Rusted springs are covered in rust on hardware, and older doors in replacement.
